INTRODUCTION TO Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
The Introduction to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu course offering is a six week closed program designed for students that have no prior experience in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or grappling. You will be learning BJJ in a safe and controlled environment with students at the same level as you.
With two classes per week over a six week period, this program follows a strict curriculum that is vital to a beginner’s progression in Jiu Jitsu. Students will learn the history of BJJ; basic self-defence techniques; the fundamentals of the basic positions; body mechanics; and basic concepts such as how to apply leverage to control a larger stronger opponent.
Included in the cost of registration, each student is provided with a Gracie Jiu Jitsu Gi – Retail value $149.95-$159.95.
Students should bring a rash guard or t-shirt to wear under their Gi during training for hygiene purposes.
Upon registration our Head BJJ Instructor and Black Belt will reach out to you and arrange a time for you to come to the studio for a quick orientation and to get sized for your Gi.
This program is by far one of the fastest and safest ways to learn the fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
BJJ ALL LEVELS
This Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class is open to practitioners of all levels. The class will start with a light warm up using drills specific to BJJ, followed by theoretical analysis and practice of 2-3 techniques. The balance of the class will be dedicated to specific training (controlled and monitored safe live training) focusing on the techniques taught in class.
Classes follow a specifically designed curriculum to enhance your training/study of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
BJJ ROLLING (SPARRING)
This is a guided/controlled 60 minute workout class with a series of 5 or 6 min rounds of live sparring. The class is controlled by an instructor who will be on the mat rolling with the students, and who will also pair up the students for each round; this is done for safety reasons and also to ensure students are challenged from time to time. Participants should expect a good workout from this class structure, as there are only a few intermittent breaks during the 60 minute session.
BJJ OPEN MAT
Open Mat sessions are a non-instructional class where students may practice the application of technique through independent drilling and timed sparring matches. Guidance by instructors is available.
Open Mat sessions are restricted to students with a minimum belt rank of One Stripe White Belt.
BJJ SELF DEFENCE
This one hour class is specifically dedicated to teaching the Gracie Self-Defence program.
This is an open program and participants are welcome to attend just one class or attend all six if they wish.
This class is perfectly suited for new students who do not have any previous martial arts experience.
The preferred class attire is your everyday workout gear consisting of sweatpants/yoga pants, and a tighter fitting t-shit.
BJJ SPECIFIC TRAINING
This class focuses on instinctual training of specific position(s) with guidance and oversight provided by one of our Blackbelt Instructors.
Although this class is open to BJJ practitioners of all levels, it is recommended for students above the 1 stripe White Belt level – students should have a solid understanding of BJJ principles and sound body awareness, as this class is more dynamic in nature.
BJJ WOMEN’S CLASS
This class is custom tailored for female practitioners of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Emphasis is placed on self-defence, teaching you how to use leverage, technique, timing and intelligence to beat a larger and stronger opponent.
Although this class is open to all female students, we strongly encourage you to firstly participate in our BJJ Fundamentals 1 Program so that you can get the most out of this class. Please feel free to discuss with our Blackbelt and Head BJJ instructor if you have any questions.
This class builds off the Gracie Fundamentals Curriculum, and is the natural progression for students who have recently completed the Fundamentals introductory program.
